Mexico City — September 23, 2026
For the first time since its inaugural event ten years ago, FinnoSummit - Latin America’s largest fintech event - is opening its doors to Canadian innovators, including Sofistic. As part of Canada's first fintech-focused delegation through the Canadian Embassy in Mexico’s Canadian Technology Accelerator (CTA), Sofistic joined a cohort of companies from five provinces, alongside hundreds of representatives from across Central and South America.
FinnoSummit 2026 runs September 23–24 in Mexico City. Ahead of the event, we spoke with Luis Ernesto Gonzalez Rojas, CTA Program Manager for the Canadian Trade Commissioner Service in Mexico, about growing ties between the Canadian and Latin American fintech ecosystems and Sofistic's role in that foundational work.
On the Canadian Technology Accelerator's mandate
What does the Canadian Technology Accelerator do for Canadian companies entering the Mexican and Latin American market?
The Canadian Technology Accelerator has operated since 2013, starting in U.S. tech hubs and growing into a network of 12 hubs worldwide, including Mexico City, Berlin, Tokyo, Singapore and London. Our mandate is to help Canadian SMEs and startups internationalize — through mentorship, advisory support and, most valuably, direct immersion in the local ecosystem: clients, strategic partners and investors. Participating companies pay no fees; the only expense is travel.
Why was this the right moment to focus a mission on fintech?
The timing is right. Mexico has a strong window of opportunity: rapid sector growth, a large underbanked population, and supportive regulation since 2018. It's now Latin America's second-largest fintech ecosystem, growing roughly 20% a year and expected to surpass 85 million digital financial users by the end of 2027. We identified five key opportunity areas for Canadian companies and felt it was time to show Mexico what Canadian fintech has to offer.
On Sofistic's participation in FinnoSummit
What made Sofistic stand out for this delegation?
Even though it was founded in 2022, Sofistic shows strong traction in the Canadian market and is backed by a team with clear capability to execute its growth strategy. The company's solid financial position – reinforced by a significant recent funding round – carries real weight in our evaluation. The platform's ability to consolidate clients' total wealth, run scenarios, and surface opportunities makes it highly relevant for the Mexican market, which is why we selected Sofistic for this delegation.
FinnoSummit traditionally focuses on opportunities in Latin America. Why bring Canadian companies in now?
The idea came from our consultants, who also organize FinnoSummit, and they were genuinely excited about expanding their focus to include Canada. Our cohort spans fraud intelligence, cross-border payments (including stablecoins), digital fleet cards, credit risk assessment, cybersecurity, and predictive analytics, among others.
Our goal is for the region to understand what Canada brings to the table — and for Canadian companies to better understand the Mexican and broader Latin American markets in the same trip.
Sofistic will have a speaking slot on The Lens, FinnoSummit's most interactive stage, and we're aiming for Canadian companies to become a regular part of FinnoSummit's roster going forward.
What Mexican Advisors need
Given that Sofistic aims to help wealth advisors elevate their client service, what do Mexican wealth managers and advisors need most right now?
Mexico is the region's second-largest wealth market, and advisor firms and family offices here are becoming increasingly professionalized. Pension fund managers oversee roughly 8.9 trillion Mexican pesos, and private banks are competing hard for generational wealth transfer.
But many still rely on legacy tools and spreadsheets, leaving institutions without firm-wide visibility for credit and cross-selling — a real gap, particularly in the north of the country and in Mexico City, and a strong opening for a platform like Sofistic.AI.
What have you been hearing from Mexican institutions about AI adoption in financial services?
It's one of the reasons we focused on fintech now — we're hearing about AI in financial services constantly, and this year's FinnoSummit is more heavily oriented toward AI than ever, with several panelists addressing it directly.
Looking ahead
What does success look like once FinnoSummit wraps up?
Success means generating leads-aiming for each company to leave Mexico with at least one or two concrete opportunities, such as pilots or deals, fostering a sense of accomplishment and progress.
What's next for Canada-Mexico collaboration in fintech?
We hope this is the first of many fintech CTAs between our countries. We want to build real momentum in both directions — bringing more Canadian companies to Mexico, and giving Mexican fintechs and founders the chance to connect with Canada. Our trade team covers priority sectors across the bilateral relationship, and we're here to help any company that wants to do business in Mexico.
From Montreal to Mexico City, we're at FinnoSummit to connect with Latin America's wealth management leaders. See how Sofistic helps advisors uncover hidden assets, find each client's best next move, and turn insight into growth.
